About Algo Trading Systems

Real-Deal Traders Providing Real-Deal Trading Systems

Why ATS?

ATS develops real trading systems created by experienced traders and trading-software specialists. Our technology is focused on helping traders pursue three fundamental goals: maximize profit potential, minimize drawdown and reduce emotion.

How Does ATS Deliver?

ATS provides a next-generation hybrid trading framework purpose-built for futures day trading, independent traders and prop-firm environments. It delivers a true 360° view of the live market, combining automation, systematic confirmation and real-time market context so traders can operate with greater clarity, structure and control.

What Does ATS Provide?

Our proprietary hybrid algorithmic trading technology bridges the gap between discretionary trading and full automation by combining human decision-making with machine precision. The result is a structured and repeatable approach designed for futures day traders, prop traders and swing traders.

Who Is ATS?

ATS is not an average retail trading-software outfit. We originally built our systems for our own trading and continue to develop them from the perspective of active traders, system developers and market professionals. Today, ATS makes that technology available to independent traders, prop traders, professional traders, money managers, CTAs and hedge funds.

Tom Leeson — Chief Executive Officer

Tom Leeson joined ATS executive leadership with commercial algorithmic-trading, quantitative-development and enterprise-software experience dating back to 1996. His first commercial exposure to algorithmic trading came through an FDM Group consulting assignment with Goldman Sachs in the City of London, working on institutional stock portfolio and algorithmic-trading systems.

During the formative years of online financial services, Tom contributed to some of the earliest web-based banking, stock-trading and brokerage platforms. His work included Cahoot, Stock Academy and financial systems for Bank of America, Chase, UBS and Freeserve. He developed broker-side technology in C++ together with server-side and client-side web applications, connecting professional trading infrastructure with the rapidly emerging world of online financial services.

Tom established MicroTrends Ltd in the United Kingdom in 2006 to provide independent software-development, quantitative-development and financial-technology services to institutions in the City of London. That same year, he also moved into futures proprietary day trading with TCA Futures, combining institutional software engineering with practical trading and algorithmic-system research.

Tom’s final institutional engagement, from 2006 to 2009, was with State Street, Global-Link and CLS. Using C#, Message Queuing and T-SQL, he developed high-value interbank financial-messaging, SWIFT-enrichment and message-acceleration technology. Trade sizes within the CLS environment began at approximately $150 million and extended considerably higher, demanding exceptional standards of performance, accuracy and reliability. His work achieved a 100-fold increase in message throughput without causing a single bank-system failure.

After completing that engagement in 2009, Tom retired from the City’s corporate financial-technology environment and moved to Portugal to focus full-time on independent futures trading, quantitative research and algorithmic trading-system development. Through MicroTrends, he continued trading and developing futures technology while travelling internationally before eventually settling in Asia.

Since 2009, MicroTrends has specialized in NinjaTrader and futures algorithmic-trading technology for discretionary day trading, systematic trading, swing trading, portfolio trading and multi-system asset-management applications. For more information about the company and its history, see About MicroTrends.

From 2015 to 2017, Tom worked on-site in Australia as Head of Algorithmic Trading Systems for the futures allocation operated through Clear Point Capital. He was responsible for its algorithmic trading systems, technical infrastructure and related development, and continued providing remote systems and technical consultancy until 2022. Technologies and methodologies developed through this professional trading operation were subsequently adapted and evolved for retail futures day trading and prop-firm trading, helping form the foundations of the modern AlgoFuturesTrader platform.

Since 2022, Tom has focused on expanding ATS’s global reach and advancing its integrated suite of hybrid trading systems, bringing together institutional software-engineering principles, professional trading methodologies and accessible retail-trading technology.

Tom remains an active independent trader, investor and trading-system developer. His goal is to make professional-grade futures trading technology accessible across the retail market, with options ranging from free access upwards. He is the inventor and pioneer of the Fib Grid Trading System, numerous proprietary trading studies and hybrid trading systems designed for retail and professional algorithmic trading.

Tom contributed his trading-system intellectual property to ATS, enabling the company to become the US-based owner and global exclusive provider of MicroTrends NinjaTrader algorithmic trading systems. ATS technology serves independent traders, prop traders, commercial traders, professional traders, money managers, CTAs and hedge funds. NinjaTrader development is powered by MicroTrends Ltd for the free NinjaTrader trading platform.
